Description

Pneumonia is an inflammation of the lungs that often occurs as a complication of another illness, usually Pasteurella (snuffles).  It can lead to the rabbit's death if not treated in the early stages.

Symptoms

- difficulty breathing
- rabbit sitting hunched up with head tilted back
- high temperature
- discharge from nose
- blue tinge to tongue and lips

Prevention / Treatment

Consult your vet immediately.  If diagnosed in early stages, pneumonia can be treated with antibiotics.

Reduce the risk of pneumonia by avoiding sudden changes in temperature, draughts and stress.
