Pneumonia is an inflammation of the lungs that often occurs as a complication of another illness, usually Pasteurella (snuffles). It can lead to the rabbit's death if not treated in the early stages.
Symptoms
- difficulty breathing
- rabbit sitting hunched up with head tilted back
- high temperature
- discharge from nose
- blue tinge to tongue and lips
Prevention / Treatment
Consult your vet immediately. If diagnosed in early stages, pneumonia can be treated with antibiotics.
Reduce the risk of pneumonia by avoiding sudden changes in temperature, draughts and stress.
